“Mere color, unspoiled by meaning, and unallied with definite form, can speak to the soul in a thousand different ways.“ — Oscar Wilde

COURSE INTRODUCTION
This Ecourse is all about identifying and loosening up our colour bias, or default position, as we can, as artists, lean naturally toward warm or cool palettes, which is very influenced by where we have grown up and currently live. Col0ur is light, and colour in painting can create the sensation of light. How many times have we looked at our painting in progress, and think it’s dull or lacking something in the colour we have put down, regardless of the subject? Temperature control in choosing and mixing colour is crucial for artists who want to move into expressive uses of colour, and it's at the heart of the expressive use of colour that we are exploring on this course. I live between Ireland and Spain and have a natural bias towards cooler colours, atmospheric painting, and close values, courtesy of growing up in Ireland. I have had to work hard over the years to bring stronger contrast, and more saturated colour into my work. Having a holiday home in Spain since 2016 has really helped me with that.
Let me show and tell you more about this colour bias you might also have, through this short course intro:
You don’t have to move to a different location to improve your colour skills like Monet, Matisse, and VanGogh did, as awareness is everything, when we examine our relationship to colour…… but if you :
Struggle with values, and levels of saturation, when using colour
Are a show me, rather then tell me, learner, and glaze over if you have to look at manuals for anything. :)
Fall back on pre-mixed colour too much in your painting
Need more practice in balancing neutrals and saturated colour
Love painting intuitively, but feel a bit random sometimes in your colour choices
. Feel like you keep reaching for the same colours that feel ‘safe’ and want to get bolder in this respect.
. Love colour, and want to dig deeper into it to improve your painting skills
………………Then this course is for you!

“Pauline Agnew does a number of online courses that are worth their weight in gold. I’ve done several, and I go back to them, over and over. I loved them so much that I did a workshop with her in Ireland. I’m saving up to do another one. I would say that her Ecourses and workshops have been the most influential in my development.”
